Benefits of Early Childhood Education

benefits of early childhood education

Start them early!

The early years of a child’s life are vital!

Why?

During pre-adolescence, school-age children develop critical social, emotional and fine motor skills.

In addition, children begin to learn foundational lessons that will follow them through their educational career.

These foundational lessons are important to develop early on as they are continuously built on in later years.

There are several benefits of early childhood education! In this article, we are diving deep into early childhood education and how your budding scholar can benefit.

3 Benefits of Early Childhood Education

Increased Cognitive Abilities

Cognition refers to how a person understands the world and acts in it. Accordingly, cognitive abilities are skills we need to carry out a task. Furthermore, cognitive abilities refer to how we learn, remember, problem-solve, and pay attention. With this in mind, it’s important to develop cognitive abilities early on.

Even more, an early study on cognition found that students who participated in early education programs had better cognitive abilities than those who did not. In fact, it was determined that children who participated in an early education program had higher cognitive test scores from the toddler years to age 21!

Improved Social Skills

Students that are exposed to their peers early on have improved social skills. In this case, children in the school environment learn how to express their own ideas, make friends, share with peers, cooperate in groups, and take responsibility for their actions.

In addition, students are able to engage with other students and adults in a constructive setting. At this point, children can practice communicating in different places like home, classroom, and public places.

Advanced Vocabulary & Language Development

Correspondingly, students with optimal social skills and strong cognitive abilities typically have larger vocabularies than those who don’t interact with their peers early on.

Vocabulary is learned not only through workbooks but social interaction. Students who interact with other students and teachers early on have more opportunity to practice unknown vocabulary. In addition, during these interactions, students trade vocabulary and are exposed to new concepts.

Start Your Child’s Education Off Right!

Overall, students that participate in early childhood education have increased cognitive abilities, improved social skills, and advanced vocabulary and language development.

With the benefits of early childhood education in mind, it is important to find a school that nurtures a love of learning and challenges students to think critically.
