Summer Activities – Phoenix Edition

Summer Fun for Phoenix Families!

As promised, here is our Phoenix edition of kid-friendly summer activities! Believe it or not, you CAN still have fun despite the hot Arizona temperatures. Many of these affordable options will also help your child to continue learning, even while school is out for the summer. (See our suggestions for Tucson families here.)

 

Heard Museum – FREE Fourth Summer Sundays & Free First Fridays

2301 N Central Ave

Take your little ones down to the museum to learn about some cool American Indian Art! This museum offers a unique collection of world-class exhibitions dedicated to advancing American Indian Art by showcasing the beauty and vitality of both traditional and contemporary art. The event will provide free performances, artist demonstrations, and gallery admission for certain time slots on the fourth Sunday of each month (coming up this weekend!) and the first Friday of each month.

Enchanted Island Amusement Park – Free Admission & $5 Splash Zone

For guaranteed fun for the whole family, check out the Enchanted Island Amusement Park. Park admission is free, and once inside you can purchase ride tickets, game vouchers, and food.

Arizona Capitol Museum – FREE Admission

The Arizona Capitol Museum uses a combination of technology, hands-on activities, historical artifacts, and public programs to help visitors learn about political, cultural, and social history.

Open Air Market (Phoenix Public Market)

721 N Central Ave

Pick up some tasty local food at this community food market that attracts local vendors and families alike. While the food isn’t free, they do offer a Double-Up Food Bucks program that allows SNAP recipients to match their money spent at the market, giving double the spending power.

Japanese Friendship Garden – FREE Admission First Fridays!

The Japanese Friendship Garden promotes education and understanding of Japanese culture while offering a place of beauty and tranquility to escape from everyday pressures. In addition to their garden, they also have live music, demonstrations, and more on their special event the first Friday of each month!

Arizona Science Center – FREE Admission with Library Culture Pass!

600 E Washington St

The AZ Science Center offers 300+ hands-on exhibits for interactive fun for all ages. The center is focused on inspiring and engaging curious minds through their exhibitions about the human body, technology, gravity, the sun, nature, and more. Use your library card to get two Culture Passes and enjoy free admission, OR if someone in your group has a valid military ID, you can receive free admission for up to 5 people.
