Teacher Feature Friday! 6/23/17
Thanks for joining us for week two of “Teacher Feature Friday”! It is so difficult to choose just one teacher from each school since every single AMS teacher is extremely talented and unique. Each educator brings something special to the table, and it’s really a team effort. This week, we are introducing four teachers who each excel in their own arena – Technology, Special Education, 3rd Grade, and English Language Arts.
AMS Prince – Enlin Xu, Technology Teacher
Mr. Xu is one of the most cheerful, funny guys you’ll meet! During the 2016-2017 school year he not only helped lead the pilot program for the middle school “Technology Track”, but also managed to be the IT support technician for both Tucson schools as well as the network business office. Mr. Xu is very involved in Robotics club and coaching AMS STEM teams, and every year makes the trip to California with the graduating 8th grade class for their CIMI field trip! However, he always has time for his Pomeranian pup and playing Dance Dance Revolution!
MASSA – Brianna Sampson, Special Education Teacher
Mrs. Sampson (newly married this summer, congratulations!) is a proud University of Arizona alumna who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Cross-Categorical Special Education. She always has a smile on her face and is never too busy to stop and help anyone who needs a hand. Students, parents, and teachers can’t help but love Mrs. Sampson. In her spare time, some of her hobbies are crafting and reading.
AMS Flower – Farrah Howard, 3rd Grade Teacher
Mrs. Howard comes to us all the way from San Andres, an island in the Caribbean. She has a degree in psychology and has been teaching elementary students for 6 years. Mrs. Howard believes the best way to improve the future of the next generation is through education, and that is where her passion lies. She was named the teacher of the month at AMS Flower for April 2017!
AMS Camelback – Curtis Walker, Middle School English Language Arts Teacher
Mr. Walker just wrapped up his first year at AMS Camelback (the school’s second year of existence). It was his first year living in Arizona. In Mr. Walker’s own words, AMS students “have already made my transition easier as I am impressed each day with their hunger and desire to learn.” Mr. Walker aims to not only teach his students how to read and write well, but to help them think deeply and use language arts to grow themselves personally. As if he wasn’t already awesome enough, Mr. Walker also writes the monthly newsletters for AMS Camelback!
Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts to these teachers and all the rest of the AMS teaching team! Keep an eye out every Friday to meet more of them!
